MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (WCIV) – It's a seal of approval, the Darkness to Light Partners in Prevention program means a company or organization has committed to child sex abuse prevention. Thirty-four partners were honored Tuesday in Mount Pleasant.

"I don't think you'll ever understand the importance of what you've accomplished with Partners in Prevention. You're paying it forward in a very profound way," D2L Coalition member Carol Hogue told the audience.

Her family affected by child sex abuse, Hogue says she understands the meaning behind the sticker and what the efforts to prevent can mean to even one person.

"Do not ever underestimate the power of the voice that you have. And on behalf of my family and many other families who will not have to experience this, I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for the commitment that you made," she said.

The commitment to train employees of organizations in recognizing and preventing child sex abuse has taken center stage over the last year because of high profile child abuse cases like former Penn State's Jerry Sandusky and former Lowcountry teacher Skip ReVille.

"I think the conversation, both locally around ReVille and Sandusky, have definitely helped spur the sense of urgency with parents and organizations and I think it's a combination, our community has been fairly progressive for addressing these issues in the last several years," D2L CEO and President Julie Logan said.
