Donors Tuesday at the blood drive for Collins (WCIV)CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) - Friends of Nick Collins, the young man run over by a semi truck on August 3, say they're taking his recovery one day at a time. Friends organized a blood drive for Nick Tuesday.
Police say Collins was the passenger in an SUV that lost control, throwing him into the middle of I-526. The semi ran over his legs when a friend tried to pull Collins from the road.
Doctors had to amputate Collins' leg below the knee, and family tells ABC News 4 he is becoming more responsive to those around him.
"It's going to be a long road to recovery, many many months in the hospital, and we're just hoping for the best and keep praying but he is showing a lot of positive signs which is the good news," said friend Pat Condon.
Tuesday's blood drive was held at the Mount Pleasant Holiday Inn.
