CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) - Sertoma opening night at Johnson Hagood Stadium was as good as advertised. Friday night brought seven more games to get high school football fans amped up for the start of the 2012 season.
Stall handled Lincoln in game one Friday night, 25-8. Daryl Jenkins recovered a fumble on a blocked punt and took it 25 yards for the TD to give Stall the early lead. Quarterback Jordan Carswell added an 18-yard TD run for Stall.
Woodland shut out Academic Magnet in game two, 12-0. The game was scoreless until late when QB Patrick Shepherd tossed a TD pass to Herbert Johnson with four minutes left. Woodland added a late score, but the first TD was all they needed.
Play was suspended for about 45 minutes between games two and three due to lightning.
Colleton County ran the hook-and-ladder for a TD in game three for the early 7-0 lead against Pinewood. Pinewood QB Bobby Casey led the Panthers on a drive to tie the score 7-7 and that would be the final score.
In game four, Tre Orr from Northwood Academy caught a 39-yard TD pass on the first play from scrimmage to give the Chargers a 7-0 lead over Burke. Northwood wins 12-6.
Game five was a battle between Porter Gaud and Berkeley. Joshua Sellers 52 yards for the TD to give Berkeley the 6-0 lead and they won by that score.
"We're excited-- we've got kids who worked hard during the off season." said Head Coach Jeff Cruce. "4-7 is not very good at Berkeley High School, but the kids are doing a very good job."
Goose Creek beat Fort Dorchester 28-12 helped in part by Caleb Kinlaw, who pulled out a nice TD run to put the Gators up by 16 with three minutes to play.
"I was very pleased offensively. We've got four new starters on the offensive line, a new quarterback, a new fullback, and I really thought our guys executed really well, "said Head Coach Chuck Reedy.
In the night's final game, Summerville and Ashley Ridge played to a 13-13 tie.
