CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) - Charleston Southern University's Master of Science in Nursing program received natonal accreditation, in just its third year of existence.

The National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) granted the accreditation to the MSN program that prepares nurses to serve in the faculty and nurse educator roles in the healt care system.

The MSN program enrolled its first class in 2009.

"The NLNAC accreditation for Charleston Southern's Master of Science in Nursing indicates the excellence of our program," said Dr. Tara Hulsey, dean of the School of Nursing. "This acknowledges that CSU's MSN program meets or exceeds the standards and criteria established to designate educational quality."

The NLNAC Board of Commissioners also granted Charleston Southern's Derry Patterson Wingo School of Nursing baccalaureate nursing program (Bachelor of Science in Nursing) continued accreditation. The Charleston Southern University School of Nursing program is one of only 15 schools in the country chosen to pilot the integration of national quality and safety competencies into the BSN curriculum.

The MSN program continues to grow. The Board of Trustees agreed to expand enrollment in 2011, and CSU officials announced a 10-year transformation plan to expand nursing facilities in February.
