SUMMERVILLE, S.C. (WCIV) -- Summerville police are investigating the theft of an ATM machine from the CPM Federal Credit Union on Westvaco Road.

According to a spokesperson with the SPD, officers were notified of an alarm around 3:50 a.m. Monday.

"When officers got on scene they noticed there was a front-end-loader type piece of equipment that probably came from the construction site next door," said Captain Jon Rogers with Summerville Police.

Police believe someone used the equipment to knock the ATM from its foundation, out of sight of security cameras.

"There was a pickup truck in the background where we could see the machine put onto. They were out in a very short period of time," said Rogers.

A forklift from the Highway 17 construction project was used to tear out the atm at a Suntrust Bank. Construction managers say, when keys are often left inside the ignition in heavy equipment, anyone can get behind the wheel.

There are no suspects at this time according to police.
