Heavy Rains and Major Wastewater Force Main Break Stress Wastewater System
Mount Pleasant, S.C. - Mount Pleasant residents should limit the use of the wastewater system including flushing the toilet and running the water for prolonged periods. Limiting use of the system will reduce the possibility of wastewater/sewage overflows or spillage.
Residents are urged to report any indications of a wastewater/sewage spill. If you see any evidence of a sewage/wastewater spill such as an overflow from a manhole please call the Mount Pleasant Waterworks' Emergency Answering Service at 884-9626.
During this afternoon's rainfall, a 20" diameter wastewater force main ruptured at Long Grove Drive and Rifle Range Road. It is anticipated the repair will be approximately eight to ten hours. Normal wastewater system use can resume tomorrow.
Mount Pleasant residents are also being asked to avoid contact with water in drainage ditches on Rifle Range Road (near Seaside Farms); ponds adjacent to and in Seaside Farms; Inlet Swinton; Hamlin Creek; and Gray Bay north/west of the Intracoastal Waterway.
This message is being issued as a precautionary measure. Mount Pleasant Waterworks, along with the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control, are monitoring the situation.
