MONCKS CORNER, S.C. (WCIV) – Heather Gilstrap always thought she lived in a safe community, but questions it now after the murder of two girls.
"I never knew something like this could come out of Moncks Corner."
Gilstrap says she feels terrible about what happened to 18-year-old Dana Marie Woods, and 22-year-old June Guerry. She is a personal friend of Wood's mom, Jennifer Hill, and got to know Dana well.
"She's (Dana) just like her mother, so caring so friendly and just like Jennifer, she would give the shirt off her back."
Gilstrap didn't get to meet June, but feels connected to her because she's a young mother herself.
"I just feel so awful for that baby," she said. "Dana being a child of Jennifer, and June being a mother and a child herself. It is just makes me clutch to my children and stare at them in amazement."
After friends and family pay respects to Dana Woods Friday evening, Gilstrap has organized a candlelight vigil for Guerry to immediately follow.
"I really feel like their life needs to be celebrated. It's sad. It's just nice to be around other people who love these women so much," she said.
