MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (WCIV) - A run to honor the heroes of 9/11 is scheduled for this weekend at Patriots Point.
Organizers of the charity run say they hope the event will raise awareness of the sacrifices made by the first responders on 9/11, and remember those who lost their lives.
The cost is 25 dollars to participate in the 5K race, 15 dollars for the one mile run and free for spectators who just want to cheer on the runners.
"50 percent of the proceeds go to the Travis Manion foundation which supports organizations and events all across the country dealing with our currently enlisted military and veterans," said Theresa Faircloth, Race Director for the 9/11 Heroes Run. "Then 50 percent of the proceeds will stay in the local communities that host the 9/11 heroes run, so for Charleston we have 50 percent of our race proceeds going to the Charleston Fire Department, the Charleston 9 Memorial Fund, Gifting Warriors and the Distressed Officers' Fund."
Opening ceremonies are scheduled for 7:40 a.m. Saturday, September 8th at Mount Pleasant Memorial Waterfront Park. The race kicks off at 8 a.m.
Online registration ends Wednesday night. Click here for details on how to sign up.
