SC coops back September DC flight for WWII vets

Posted: Updated:

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- South Carolina's electric cooperatives are supporting a second trip designed to fly elderly World War II veterans to Washington so they can view monuments erected in their honor.

The group of 20 cooperatives across the state sponsored a similar flight in April, and paid for it with a $60,000 gift.

Cooperative spokesman Van O'Cain says the trip is planned for Sept. 26 and they have gotten applications from 87 veterans.

O'Cain says the group is getting together Wednesday to plan for the September flight.
