WADMALAW ISLAND, S.C. (WCIV) -- Charleston County Sheriff's deputies have arrested a man suspected of stabbing and carjacking a coworker who was giving him a ride.

Deputies responded to Spence Drive on Johns Island for a reported carjacking and stabbing around 2:30 a.m. Thursday.

The victim, 21-year-old Rontrell Matthews, told deputies that at around 1:30 a.m. he and 18-year-old Carlton Lomond Solomon Jr. were leaving a friend's house on Sadie Lane on Wadmalaw Island in the victim's 1997 Toyota Avalon when Solomon struck Matthews twice in the chest with an "unknown cutting instrument."

Police reports say Matthews told deputies that he's known Solomon for about eight years and they worked together at the Bojangles on Savannah Highway.

Deputies say after being stabbed twice, Matthews got out of the car and Solomon Jr. got behind the wheel and drove off. Deputies found the victim's vehicle abandoned off of Rewes Lane.

Solomon Jr. was found at his home on Langston Drive and arrested without incident. He's charged with attempted murder and carjacking.
