Defense rests in case of missing SC toddler

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- Attorneys have wrapped up their case in defense of a South Carolina mother charged in the case of her missing son.

Zinah Jennings' attorneys rested their case Thursday. The 23-year-old mother told a judge she did not want to testify in her own defense.

Jennings is on trial on a charge of unlawful conduct toward a child. Police say she won't tell them where the boy is.

Police say Amir was last seen during a visit to a Columbia bank with his mother in November 2011.

A Lexington storeowner testified Thursday she saw the boy with Jennings nearly a month later, but prosecutors challenged that assertion.

Jennings faces up to 10 years in prison if convicted. Her mother testified Wednesday that she never believed Jennings would harm her son.
