CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- Charleston police officers arrested a man they say choked a woman unconscious back in April and that he intended to sexually assault her.

It happened around 5 a.m. on April 28th near the railroad tracks behind some homes on King Street at Carolina Street. Police say 47-year-old Nathaniel Wilson is accused of attacking a woman who was walking from a friend's house on Line street.

Police say Wilson approached his victim from behind, "grabbed her around the neck and choked her until she was unconscious." They say once she woke up, she fought him off and ran. Police say he caught up with her, however, "shoved her to the ground and began kicking her." That's when the report says she fought him off a second time and was assisted by a passing motorist.

Wilson is charged with assault with the intent to commit criminal sexual conduct.
