CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- The Charleston City Fire Department responded at 12:17 pm to 1618 Balsam Street in West Ashley for a house fire.

Mark Ruppel, spokesman for the Charleston City Fire Department, said the house was vacant and no one was hurt in the fire.  The fire is said to have started in a room in the back but was quickly contained by firefighters.

Ruppel said the cause of the fire is still unknown since it is in the very early stages of the investigation.

The St. Andrews Fire Department assisted in fighting the fire.
