Georgetown County woman nabbed after pursuit

Posted: Updated:

GEORGETOWN, S.C. (WCIV) -- A Georgetown County woman was arrested Monday after leading authorities on a chase where speeds reached nearly 100 miles per hour.

And investigators say she was drinking after sheriff's deputies ended the chase.

Sandra D. Cook, 40, is charged with failure to stop for a blue light, driving under suspension, reckless driving and open container, according to police.

Cook was driving 88 miles per hour on Highway 17 through Pawleys Island around 11 a.m., according to a news release from the Georgetown County Sheriff's Office. The speed limit in that area is 45 miles per hour.

The chase extended into the city limits of Georgetown, investigators said, and Cook was stopped with "stop sticks" just north of Martin Luther King Road and the Highway 17 traffic light on Pawleys Island.

"After Cook exited the vehicle, she began walking away from deputies drinking a bottle of tequila but was quickly taken into custody," investigators said in a news release.

She is in custody at the Georgetown County Detention Center.
