Folly Beach booze ban is now permanent

Posted: Updated:

FOLLY BEACH, S.C. (WCIV) -- Folly Beach Town Council had been inching towards this decision for over two months. Tuesday, they finally took the plunge.

An alcohol ban on the beach is now permanent. It replaces a temporary ban that was passed just last week.

The permanent move stems from a brawl on the beach on July 4. Several officers were hurt during a melee officials have referred to as a riot.

A total of 16 tickets were issued that day after a crowd got out of control.

The permanent ban goes into place immediately. Councilman Eddie Ellis voted in favor of it. He says the decision came down to health, safety and welfare of the public.
