Center for Women can help you deal with difficult people

Posted: Updated:

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- Even if you love your job, chances are good you have at least one co-worker or acquaintance that you would describe as being difficult to work with.

The Center for Women in Charleston is offering help by teaching you ways to deal with the unpleasant situations. On Saturday, Sept. 15 the center will host a workshop titled, "Work Well with Difficult People."

"This program is part of our monthly Women's Leadership Institute and we're delighted to have a topic that can affect any working woman in any type of workplace," said Center for Women Director Leigh Ann Garrett.

According to the center, ignoring a problem co-worker, employee or client is the wrong approach. Instead, the workshop will teach attendees how to tactfully handle tough situations with skill.

"This is an opportunity to enhance or acquire tools and techniques for responding effectively in challenging situations," said presenter Cathy Liska, CEO and Training Director at the Center for Coaching Certification. "For example, if someone says, ‘Your idea won't work,' one response is, ‘I am hearing the concern for results and am interested in learning specifically what worries you so it can be addressed.'"

The workshop is 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 15 at the Center for Women's downtown office at 129 Cannon St. The cost is $25 for Center for Women members and $35 for non members. You may register by calling (843) 763-7333 or visiting the Center for Women's website.

The Center for Women appears each Wednesday morning on Lowcountry Live.
