CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- In a strange turn of events, the alleged victim of an armed robbery told a bond court judge that the suspect being charged with robbing him was a man he had never seen before.
Darnell Seagers, 22, was out on bond for an August 2010 homicide on Norman Street, and was arrested Tuesday by the U.S. Marshals Task Force for an August 30 armed robbery on Ashley Hall Road.
The victim told police he was approached by a man armed with a handgun. Police say the suspect, Darnell Seagers, assaulted the victim and robbed him of his money, cell phone and cigarettes.
At a bond hearing on Wednesday, however, the victim took one look at Seagers on the video feed and told the judge that he was not the man who had robbed him after all.
After discussing the odd situation with investigators, Seagers was held without bond for the armed robbery charge and given a $100,000 bond for a weapons charge.
Then, police went outside and arrested the alleged victim, identified by court records as Joshua LaChance.
Joshua LaChance is charged with conspiracy to violate South Carolina State Narcotics Statute. Police say the ongoing investigation revealed that LaChance met with Darnell Seagers to conduct a narcotics transaction and Seagers robbed him.
