JAMES ISLAND, S.C. (WCIV) -- It won't be long before Charleston County adds another park. However, the next one is for skateboarders.

Wednesday night, plans for a new skate park at the corner of Meeting and Huger streets were shown for the first time to the public. More than a hundred people showed up to the meeting to give their support and offer input.

"It was one of the best public meetings I've ever seen since I've worked here," said Charleston County Park and Recreation Commission (CCPRC) Executive Director Tom O'Rourke.

Standing room was all that was left for many people who showed up. Those that did make it in were happy with what they saw.

"It's beautiful. They did a really good job," said Robin Willis. "You can really tell that they worked with the Department of Transportation and the city. They are making use of every square inch."

The multi-purpose plans include something for every skater, from the novice to the expert. Included in the graphic illustrations were bowls, snake runs and a street course. In addition to the fixtures the new park will also have something most other skate parks don't have -- an escape from the sun.

"It's in a good place. We have the whole overpass so it will be shady and not hot," said Menkaure Bilavandross.

The new park has a loosely based budget of $2 Million, according to CCPRC.

"We think the plan will be done in three to four months," said O'Rourke. "This is about as excited as we've been for a capital project. The skating community has waited for so long. We are motivated to see them get it."

O'Rourke says construction will take about a year to complete.

If you missed the public meeting and want to provide your input on our future skate park, a brief public survey is now online: www.ccprc.com/SkateparkSurvey

The survey will be open through Sept. 30.
