SUMMERVILLE, S.C. (WCIV) -- A Dorchester County couple whose 2-month-old son was fatally mauled by a dog at the family's home earlier this year have pleaded guilty on new charges of petit larceny.
Chantel and Quintin McGrew were charged with taking a friend's wedding ring to a local pawn shop and pawning it for $15.
Both pleaded guilty to the theft and were charged a $750 fine on Tuesday.
The victim, Danelle Moore, who is Quintin's cousin and godmother to their children, said she's just happy she got her wedding ring back and doesn't know why they stole it from her.
"I haven't talked to them since the incident," she said. "The haven't said two words to me."
Even after the theft, Moore said she supports the McGrews in their recovery over losing their 2-month-old son, Aiden, after a dog attack in their home.
"I opened my doors numerous times to them," she said. "I'd do it again if it came down to those children. If anything those children needed [sic], I'd be there for them for it."
Quintin McGrew is also charged with unlawful neglect of a child after his son was killed in April by a dog the family had been watching. According to court documents, he was asleep at the time of the incident.
