Proposed cruise terminal (File)NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) - Another public
hearing is being held on South Carolina State Ports Authority plans for a
$35 million passenger cruise terminal in Charleston.
About 200 people turned out
for a hearing on a state permit earlier this year. But the plans have
been revised and the state Office of Ocean and Coastal Resource
Management has scheduled another hearing Wednesday.
The revisions include changes to the building and outside covered areas to handle passengers and baggage
Regulators also asked for more information about the impact of cruises on property values in Charleston's historic district.
The terminal plans have sparked lawsuits in state and federal court.
Cruise opponents say
they're a public nuisance. Supporters say the industry provides jobs and
Charleston can handle a limited number of cruises.
