MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (WCIV) -- Police in Mount Pleasant have released more details about a standoff Tuesday that ended with a 60-year-old man being shot and killed by officers.

Richard Cathcart was killed after threatening officers with a gun, investigators have said.

The incident is being investigated by the State Law Enforcement Division.

An incident report released today by the Mount Pleasant Police Department states that Cathcart's wife, Nancy Cathcart, called police just before 2:30 p.m. and told them her husband had a gun and had been drinking.

After police arrived at the couple's Wappetaw Place home, according to the report, Richard Cathcart left the house several times and went back inside. At one point, investigators said, he aimed a black handgun toward officers.

"I'll kill you," Cathcart yelled at officers, according to the report.

The coroner has confirmed Cathcart's cause of death as a fatal gunshot wound to the chest.
