COLUMBIA, S.C. (WCIV) -- The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division has issued an Amber Alert for a girl who might be traveling south on U.S. 17 from North Carolina.

Abigale Faith Lefevers, 12, is a white girl with green eyes and shoulder-length brown hair, according to SLED. She is 5-feet 4-inches tall, weighs about 90 pounds and was last seen at 128 McNeil Road in Newport, N.C.

She might be traveling in a red 1998 Chrysler Sebring convertible with a North Carolina license plate (AKT 6534).

The man driving the car, according to SLED, is 38-year-old Timothy Howard Newman. He is described as a white man with brown eyes and short, brown hair.

Newman is 5-feet 8-inches tall and weighs approximately 210 pounds. Investigators told the Associated Press Abigale had been communicating with Newman in recent weeks.

According to the North Carolina Sex Offender registry, Newman has been a registered sex offender since 2005 for an offence that happened in 2003. He spent two years and three months in prison before his release in October 2005.

The registry also lists a tattoo of a Harley Davidson symbol on his right arm as a distinguishing mark.

The AP reports Abigale's father told deputies she was missing when he woke up around 6:30 a.m. Monday and that Newman was last seen around 10 p.m. Sunday. The AP also says Newman did not report for work on Monday.
