Inmate collapses at Beaufort Co. jail, later dies

BEAUFORT, S.C. (WCIV) -- An autopsy is being conducted on a Beaufort County inmate who collapsed in his cell and later died.

Beaufort County officials said in a news release Thursday that the inmate - who has not been identified - collapsed in his cell Monday at the Beaufort County Detention Center. He was taken to MUSC, where he later died, officials said.

A cause of death has not been determined.
