MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (WCIV) -- Charleston County officials have announced the new Shem Creek Bridge on Bowman Road will open to traffic Monday.
The old two-lane bridge has been expanded to four lanes, though only one lane in each direction will be open to traffic starting at 11 p.m. Monday, officials said in a news release Friday.
The other two lanes will open once the widening of Bowman Road is complete, in spring 2013.
A spokeswoman for Charleston County government said left turns will not be allowed from East Frontage Road onto Bowman Road, or from Bowman Road onto East Frontage Road.
Officials hailed the opening of the bridge as a "major step toward the completion of the Johnnie Dodds Boulevard Improvement Project.
