JAMES ISLAND, S.C. (AP) -- For a decade, a South Carolina man has bought thousands of dollars' worth of stamps to honor his late wife's battle with cancer.

The U.S. Postal Service says Eugene Platt will continue the tradition Monday, when he'll buy more than $1,000 in stamps at the James Island Post Office.

Officials say Platt's wife, Mary, died of cancer in 2003. Each year, he visits his local post office to buy thousands of Breast Cancer Research Stamps in her honor.

That brings Platt's decade-long total to more than 25,000 stamps, for a total of more than $13,000.

Officials say Platt has donated many of the stamps to his church and to the Hollings Cancer Center at the Medical University of South Carolina.
