CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) -- Business leaders from around the state attended a conference in Charleston organized by U.S. Rep. Tim Scott.

The conference Monday at the College of Charleston is titled "Revitalizing America: Carolina Strong."

The event featured Secretary of Commerce Bobby Hitt and Jim McNerney, the CEO of Boeing, which last year opened a new $750 million aircraft assembly plant in North Charleston.

The panelists will discuss various topics, including the future of the South Carolina economy.

Scott, in statements following the day's events, said the key to the economy in South Carolina is education.

"We have made so many advancements in our education system here," he said. "That is phenomenal. The key component is that we must continue to make advancements."
