Over $1.5 million reported stolen, FBI is contacted

MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (WCIV) -- Mount Pleasant police are investigating a possible case of fraud at a local plastic surgeons office.

The owner of Coastal Facial Plastic Surgery told police that a former employee, identified in the report as a 41-year-old woman, obtained several credit cards, stole hundreds of dollars over five years by not making deposits, forged checks and wire transfers and doubled her salary all without his knowledge.

The report states that the owner provided "an enormous amount of documents in reference to this incident" including bank statements showing about 10 unauthorized credit cards.

The owner says that the former employee hasn't worked there since late January and that even though he has documentation that shows she stole approximately $1,526,444 from the business, he does not want to press charges.

A spokeswoman for the FBI said agents have been in contact with Mount Pleasant authorities regarding the case. She would not confirm an investigation is underway.
