MOUNT PLEASANT (WCIV) -- The Shem Creek Bridge on Bowman Road was supposed to open Monday - and it did - but it opened early.

Mount Pleasant officials announced the opening of the bridge Monday afternoon. They had said last week the bridge would open at 11 p.m. Monday.

A spokeswoman for Charleston County government said last week left turns will not be allowed from East Frontage Road onto Bowman Road, or from Bowman Road onto East Frontage Road.

Officials hailed the opening of the bridge as a "major step toward the completion of the Johnnie Dodds Boulevard Improvement Project.
