East Central Forfeits Four-Games

Posted: Updated:

The East Central football team has forfeited their first four games of the season because they played with an ineligible player.

The Cardinals self-reported the violation last Thursday and the Tulsa Public Schools athletic department made their ruling this morning.

The player was a sophomore transfer from another TPS school.  In this situation the player has to sit out a year before being able to play.

"I want to make two items very clear regarding this rules violation. First, neither Coach Bobby Klinck nor anyone on his football coaching staff had any knowledge that the student athlete in question was in violation of the transfer participation rules." Tulsa Public Schools Director of Athletics Gil Cloud said, "The staff was new this year and has performed very well to this point."

The Cards were previously unbeaten. But now their record will stand at 1-4, 1-1 in district play.

"We are saddened for Coach Klinck and the East Central Football team to have to endure these
forfeitures; however, I am sure with Coach Klinck's leadership, the team will build on the adversity of this situation and benefit in the weeks to come." Cloud said. "Finally, I want to reiterate that the Tulsa Public Schools Athletics Department will steadfastly adhere to the rules and regulations and will not knowingly violate local board policies, district regulations or rules governed by the Oklahoma Secondary Schools Activities Association."

East Central will host Claremore this Friday in week six of the Oklahoma high school football season.
