MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (WCIV) -- A man jailed in connection with the deaths of a Mount Pleasant couple in the Caribbean nation of St. Maarten has admitted involvement in their murder, officials said Wednesday.

The suspect, Meyshane Johnson - identified by his initials, MKJ, in a news release - appeared before a judge in St. Maarten Wednesday. A spokesman for the prosecutor's office there said in a prepared statement Johnson "confessed being involved in the violent deaths of Michael and Thelma King."

The couple was found dead last month inside their beachfront condominium.

Johnson also admitted to taking part in a robbery Sept. 26 at the Happy Star restaurant, officials said.

A second suspect - identified as 17-year-old JCM - "will have his custody prolonged by the prosecutor today," the spokesman said.

CNN reported Wednesday that Johnson mentioned a second person was involved, but no name was given.
