BERKELEY, S.C. (WCIV) – Becky Hill was driven to tears when folks from Office Max surprised her with $1,000 worth of school supplies Wednesday afternoon.

"I don't know exactly what I was thinking," said Hill. "It caught me totally off guard and then it was just a complete surprise, and I had no idea."

Hill is a 2nd Grade teacher at Cane Bay Elementary School. She teaches reading to a class of 24.

Her principal, Diane White, nominated her for Office Max's "A Day Made Better" campaign.

"Picking Ms. Hill for this honor, it was kind of like choosing your favorite child among your family because Cane Bay is full of excellent teachers," White said.

The campaign gives $1,000 worth of school supplies to 1,000 teachers across the nation.

Hill is one of three teachers in South Carolina to receive the honor.

"She is always helping other teachers and developing the future educators for Berkeley County," said White. "And, that she is involved in our community and that she builds great relationships with our students and our parents."

Hill received several large orange boxes filled with school supplies ranging from markers, to a digital camera.

Hill says the gift is much-needed and will go to good use.

"Even though we receive some funds at the beginning of the year to get started in the classroom, we are constantly replenishing classroom supplies throughout the year. And, it really takes a toll on the teachers' budget," she said.

Hill was humbled as Office Max officials, her colleagues and her students showered her with compliments and well-wishes.

"This shouldn't be happening to me," she said.

The other teachers honored teach in the Upstate and Horry County.
