MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (WCIV) -- The body of a woman found dead in a neighborhood retention pond has been identified as 51-year-old Charlotte Small of Mt. Pleasant.
The woman's body was found by a teenager walking his dog on Marshgrass Boulevard, in the Salt Grass Pointe subdivision Wednesday evening.
The body did not appear to have any "observable signs of trauma," according to a spokesman for the Mount Pleasant Police Department.
The coroner said other details, such as the cause of death, are still under investigation.
Investigators at the scene Wednesday said the woman "had been deceased for a while," according to a report from the Mount Pleasant Police Department.
One neighbor in the area said she was in disbelief.
"We didn't know what was going on. Pretty scary," said Ami Wood. "We were doing head checks making sure all the kids were good."
