CPD standoff ends with man taken to hospital

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- Charleston Police were on Staffwood Road in reference to a suicidal man who barricaded himself inside his home.

Police dispatch received a call around 6 a.m. from a Mobile Crisis physician who said he spoke by telephone with a man who said he was armed and was going to commit suicide.

Homes in the immediate area of the scene were evacuated.

The Charleston Police Department's SWAT, Hostage Negotiation and Explosive Devices Unit, along with several Sheriff's Department Deputies were on scene.

The standoff ended around 10 a.m. when the man surrendered peacefully and was taken to the hospital for evaluation.
