NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- The first Boeing 787 Dreamliner built right here in the Lowcountry has taken flight.

The state-of-the-art plane took off from North Charleston Monday afternoon to make it's way to India.

The jumbo jet is the first one built at Boeing's new 750 million dollar assembly plant that opened last year.

The plane seats around 300 passengers and features bigger windows. It also has individual touch screen TV's and USB chargers in every seat, more storage space and is 20 percent more fuel efficient.

Boeing officials say they hope to produce 3 1/2 planes a month at the plant.

Air India is the first customer to order the Dreamliner. The company has ordered a total of 27 planes.
