DANIEL ISLAND, S.C. (WCIV) -- It was very small, just 1.2 cm. But it could have claimed Ruth Thorpe's life.

"When you realized it saved your life," said Thorpe. "You realize how important it is."

Ruth says a routine mammogram saved her life. At the age of 65, it's something she does ever year.

Only this time, the radiologist at Imaging Specialists in Mount Pleasant saw something he didn't like. Two days later, Ruth underwent a biopsy. It was cancer.

"Very tiny, 1.2 cm. So if it hadn't been for the mammogram they wouldn't have found it for you know quite awhile," said Thorpe.

Dr. Michael Garovich at Imaging Specialists agrees.

"She had a form of breast cancer that has no physical findings and was only detected and can only be detected on mammography," he said.

That's why Imaging Specialists is offering free and discounted mammogram Oct. 15 and throughout the year. You can find out more at www.imagingsc.com

Thorpe breaks down in tears and she reminds men and women what she already knows - mammograms can save lives.

"I want to say, get your mammograms," she said. "You only have one life to live, so love yourself and live it."
