Escaped fugitive who started crime spree that began in Walterboro is sentenced

ALLENDALE, S.C. (WCIV) -- An escaped fugitive who went on a three-day crime spree that began in Walterboro was sentenced to 30 years in prison Monday.

Perry Sullivan, 38, of Bowersville, Ga., pleaded guilty in Allendale Monday to 27 charges related to his escape and the crime spree.

The spree began when Sullivan faked a seizure in the back of a Stephens County patrol cruiser on State Route 641, according to a news release from the Fourteenth Judicial Circuit. Officials were taking Sullivan back to Georgia to face charges of burglary and aggravated assault.

After the cruiser stopped, Sullivan wrestled the sheriff's deputy to the ground and stole his gun, officials said.

After that, Sullivan went on a crime spree that included stealing two cars - including the deputy's cruiser. Sullivan also broke into a farm and robbed a convenience store.

Sullivan must serve at least 85 percent of his 30-year sentence, court officials said.
