JAMES ISLAND, S.C. (WCIV) – Several people will soon be new homeowners thanks to the help of Home Depot and a big group of volunteers.

Nearly 250 volunteers turned out Wednesday to hammer, stack and build four homes in Laurel Oak Grove.

One new homeowner said she won't ever have to worry about moving again and can't wait to have her grandchildren over to her new home.

"It means everything to me," said Ruth Carr. "It means I'm a homeowner at my age and I never thought it was possible."

In all, nine homes will be built in the area over the next year and 22 homes over the next three years. The Home Depot Foundation is sponsoring the project.
