NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- The subject of a manhunt earlier this week in North Charleston told police he traded crack cocaine for a stolen pickup, officials said Friday.

Pele White, 30, was arrested Wednesday after Charleston County sheriff's deputies saw him driving a blue Toyota Tundra pickup that had been reported stolen earlier.

White was taken into custody at a relative's home on Twitty Street after leading authorities on a short chase.

In an incident report made public Friday by the sheriff's office, investigators said White told them after his arrest that he had traded crack cocaine for the pickup. White would not say who gave him the truck, according to the report.

White also attempted to use debit and credit cards he found in the vehicle, according to the report.

He is charged with possession of a stolen vehicle, failure to stop for blue lights and siren, credit card transaction fraud, malicious damage to property and driving under suspension.

The truck was reported stolen Oct. 2, and investigators were looking into the case at a local gas station Wednesday when they saw White driving the truck.
