CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- Charleston Southern University broke ground Friday on a planned expansion of its Hunter Reception Center.

The 4,733-square-foot expansion will nearly double the size of the existing building, officials said. Also, 1,200 square feet of the existing building will be renovated.

"Service to our students is our number one priority, so we are excited about the expansion to the building, which will allow us to better serve our students," said Debbie Williamson, vice president for enrollment management.

The expansion is scheduled to be complete next summer and will allow at least three campus offices to relocate to the building.

The Hunter Reception Center opened in 1991.
