ANDREWS, S.C. (WCIV) -- The police chief in Andrews has been fired, town officials confirmed Wednesday.

Mayor Rodney Giles said Chief Jennifer Flowers was let go Tuesday.

Giles cited insubordination as the reason for the firing. He said Wednesday that Flowers recently hired two police officers without his approval.

Andrews is a town of about 3,000 located west of Georgetown.

Asked what would happen to the two officers hired by Flowers, Giles said he was not sure. He said officials would discuss the matter with the town's attorney.

A town council meeting was scheduled for 6 p.m. Wednesday.
