Man sentenced to 20 years in prison in 2010 attack

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- A North Charleston man was sentenced to 20 years in prison Wednesday for his role in a 2010 shooting.

Denorris Hall, 20, was charged with attempted murder and attempted armed robbery.

Police said Hall and another man, Herman Smith, attempted to rob a man Sept. 13, 2010, at the corner of Spruill and McMillan Avenue. The victim ran, according to a news release from prosecutors, and guns were fired at the man.

The victim was struck in the back, Solicitor Scarlett Wilson said in a news release announcing the sentence Wednesday.

"This was a ridiculous, senseless crime," she said. "The victim was running away and posed no threat to these defendants. We are grateful that the victim stood strong and came back from another state to testify."

Smith also testified against Hall, Wilson said.

State sentencing guidelines say Hall must serve at least 85 percent of his 20-year sentence.
