CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) - Police say they have made an arrest in the murder of a man on Line and Nassau streets in Downtown Charleston on Saturday morning.
Police say 23-year-old Darren Nathaniel Simmons is charged with murder and the possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime.
Simmons, who is on probation for a burglary charge, is being held in the Al Cannon Detention Center.
Charles Francis with CPD says a call was received at 6 a.m. Saturday morning about an injured person. Police and EMS arrived on scene and the man was declared dead.
The Charleston County Coroner has identified that man as 37-year-old Albert Brown.
An investigation report made public Monday said Brown was found "laying in a pool of blood on the sidewalk in front of 103 Nassau St."
Brown was riding a bicycle when he was shot, according to the report, and no witnesses could be located.
