CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- Two North Charleston men were arrested after allegedly trying to rob two people early Sunday at an Ashley River Road Apartment.

Brandon L. Daniels, 20, is charged with attempted armed robbery, first-degree assault and battery, unlawful carrying of a handgun, possession of a stolen handgun and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Lamarkeis Forrest, 19, is charged with attempted armed robbery and first-degree assault and battery.

According to police, the two alleged victims saw Daniels and Forrest wearing masks near the stairwell in an apartment complex around 1 a.m. Sunday. One of the men was holding a handgun, the victims told police.

The two alleged victims took off running, according to a news release from the Charleston Police Department, and several shots were heard as they were running.

Officers arrived on the scene and saw a Chevrolet Cruze speed away, investigators said. A traffic stop was initiated, and a passenger in the vehicle fled.

Daniels and Forrest were arrested.
