RUFFIN, S.C. (WCIV) -- Two young colts were killed in a barn fire at DC Farms near the Hudson Mill Community of Colleton County Saturday.

According to Colleton County Fire and Rescue, the fire was reported around 3:45 p.m. when a neighbor noticed smoke in the area and found the barn on fire.

Firefighters say they arrived to find the wooden barn had mostly collapsed with a truck load of hay inside.

They say it took three hand lines to fight the flames and another 30 minutes to remove the metal roof to get to the smoldering interior of the barn. They say they were on the scene for two hours.

Fire officials say two colts that were born in the spring died in their stalls. No one was at home when the fire started by what firefighters believe to be an electrical problem.
