JOHNS ISLAND, S.C. (WCIV) – Three men forced their way
inside a Johns Island woman's home early Saturday
morning, held two people hostage and fired several shots into the ceiling
before running from the home, deputies said.
However, two of the men Charleston
County deputies believe to have been
involved in the robbery were detained shortly after the incident by Charleston police
officers.
Lataj Maxwell, 28, and Anthony Heyward Jr., 19, were arrested
after one of the victims identified them as two of the men who broke into her
home. Maxwell and Heyward were charged with first-degree burglary, kidnapping, armed
robbery, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime.
The third suspect is still unidentified.
According to the incident report, the robbers, who were only
identified as three black men, forced their way in through a locked back door
of a Mary Ann Point Road
home.
Once inside, one of the men held a hand gun to one of the
victim's heads and asked her where she kept her money and cards, the report
stated.
The 49-year-old grandmother told the robber she did not have
any money, the report stated.
According to deputies, while one of the robbers held the
woman and her grandson at gunpoint, the other two men ransacked the home.
As the three men left, two other family members of the
victims walked into the home. The armed man turned and fired shots into the
ceiling and ordered the family to the floor, deputies reported.
According to the report, the grandmother said all three men
were armed.
