Suspect in assault case arrested

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- Police have arrested a man accused of striking and choking his girlfriend earlier this week.

Charleston police had been asking for the public's help to find Stephan Aiken.

He was arrested Thursday afternoon.

The woman called police late Tuesday after Aiken allegedly struck her and choked her several times inside their Flood Street apartment. Investigators say the woman had a swollen eye and a cut to her lip when they arrived on the scene.

Aiken is a black male with black hair and brown eyes. He is 5-feet 8-inches tall and weighs approximately 163 pounds.

Anyone with information about Aiken can call the Charleston Police Department at 577-7434.
