HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) -
The death of an 86-year-old Berks County man is the 12th linked to
Hurricane Sandy in Pennsylvania and the fourth storm-related fatality caused by carbon monoxide
poisoning from generator fumes.
Authorities said the man's body was found beside a generator inside a home's garage in Spring Township Wednesday evening. His wife was hospitalized.
Carbon monoxide poisoning from generator fumes is blamed in three
One victim, 48-year-old Tammy Kerosetz, of Lower Macungie
Township in Lehigh County, was pronounced dead at her home due to carbon
monoxide poisoning Tuesday evening. Authorities said she was overcome
by exhaust from a portable generator.
In Carbon County, officials
said a 66-year-old Albrightsville man died in a hospital late Tuesday
and several other people in the northeastern Pennsylvania home were sent
to hospitals for carbon monoxide poisoning from fumes caused by a
generator running in the garage.
In suburban Philadelphia, Upper
Merion police said a 90-year-old woman was found dead in her bed Tuesday
morning. Police said a gas-powered generator in the garage was powering
a light for the elderly woman in case she needed to get up in the
middle of the night.
An electrical fire Wednesday morning that killed two women in suburban Philadelphia is considered storm-related. Kathryn Griffin, 64, and her 95-year-old mother Helen Markett died at a hospital after the fire in their Bensalem home.
Also in Lehigh County, 86-year-old Theresa Schlitzer of South Whitehall Township died of hypothermia Tuesday after she was found unresponsive in her yard following prolonged exposure to the storm, officials said.
An eight-year-old Susquehanna County boy died Monday when a tree limb was brought down on top of him by a strong gust of wind, according to police.
In Northampton County, 17-year-old Robert Mills was riding an ATV in Wind Gap and died after he struck a fallen tree Monday night.
In Rapho Township, Lancaster County, officials said a man died Sunday when he fell while trimming a tree to prepare for the storm. The coroner said the elderly victim was cutting the tree when a limb broke and he fell to the ground.
A 62-year-old Boyertown man on his porch was killed when a large tree toppled onto his home, crushing the roof of both the house and the porch, and a woman died in Somerset County after the car she was in slid out of control on a wet highway and rolled into a small farm pond, trapping the passenger under water.
