Two fires in the same day have people wondering in Andrews

ANDREWS, S.C. (WCIV) - The caved in roof and the charred wood are what's left of a convenience store on Morgan Avenue.  Investigators say it was one of two fires that started around the same time.

Andrews Fire Chief Bobby Barrineau says his crew responded to a fire at a flea market belonging to Mary Stubbs shortly before 3 a.m.

"I just broke down and started crying," said Mary Stubbs. "We had just remodeled the place-the whole inside. We was getting ready to prepare for the holidays for the kids.  They were calling in orders already for 4-wheelers and bikes and stuff."

Stubbs says the fire started in the back of the store. Smoke and water, she says, destroyed everything inside.

As Andrews firefighters battled that blaze, they say Georgetown and Williamsburg County firefighters fought a fire at what was once a convenience store dating back to the 1960s.

Lois Cook says after her husband passed away in 2007, the store became a place of storage.

"You just wonder, you know, what really happened," said Louise Cook. "Wasn't no electricity going to it."

Both fires happened within two miles of one another.  While Stubbs says she lost everything, she has plans to rebuild.

"I'm not going to just let it go.  Eight years of hard work.  It's hard to just let go," she said.
