NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) --  Drivers around Leeds Avenue and Azalea Drive in North Charleston can expect traffic delays because of the heavy turnout for absentee voting.

Cars are lined up at both the Elections Warehouse Office on Headquarters Road and the old SCE&G Building at the corner of Leeds Avenue and Azalea Drive.

The Charleston Sheriff's Office has placed deputies on the scene to direct traffic. Based on current traffic, delays should be expected throughout the day into this evening.

Berkeley County residents aren't facing any better of a situation.

"Well I was hoping that the lines were gonna' be shorter, but I guess not," said Elizabeth Hussman of Summerville.

Late afternoon lines were two to two and half hours long.

Some voters thought the lines would be shorter today, while others came out to beat the rainy weather that's expected Tuesday.

"They said cold and raining so I thought I'd just take care of this today," said Alfreda from St.Stephen.
