WALTERBORO, S.C. (WCIV) -- Voters took to the polls in Colleton County to see who would don the sheriff's badge.

The new sheriff, Democratic candidate Andy Strickland won with 53 percent of the vote over republican candidate Marshall Morehead.

"I'm 33 years old and a lifelong Colletonian and ever since I was a little boy I honestly thought I'd be the sheriff of Colleton County," said Strickland. "It's like the little choo-choo train that could, and we're just excited about the good group of people we have that will make a difference in Colleton County."

Sheriff George Malone decided earlier this year that he would not run for another term in office.
